improving productivity
Much of our work is designed to improve productivity and performance.
Performance indicators are fundamental to strategic, corporate and business planning. Our organisational status reviews incorporate assessment of performance and productivity.
In addition, we have done a number of stand-alone projects specifically aimed at monitoring performance and/or boosting productivity.
Experience
Australia Post: Performance monitoring: Miriam O'Brien was a key member of the KPMG team that successfully designed the process for conducting independent testing of the performance of the domestic letter service of Australia Post (resulting in KPMG Peat Marwick winning this major national contract).
Local Government Performance Indicators: In this benchmark study, Miriam O'Brien developed a set of performance indicators as a model for performance monitoring in Victorian Local Government Authorities. She based the model on the City of Traralgon, designed the process, facilitated workshops, conducted staff training, designed and analysed community attitude survey, and worked with managers and staff to develop a practical set of corporate and operational indicators including industry benchmarks and trend analysis. This work culminated in an oft-quoted manual on the process that has been widely used in local government and elsewhere.
City of Essendon:
Performance Indicators: Initially we designed and facilitated a process to develop performance indicators for all operational areas of the City of Essendon, including training managers in the development and use of performance indicators.
Productivity Review: We then proceeded to design and facilitate a review, which identified significant productivity savings for the City of Essendon. By working with and guiding employees over a two-year program, the City achieved its targeted savings.
